BHAVNAGAR: Now, one won't have to go all the way to Mumbai for a
double-decker bus ride. Come January, double-decker buses will cruise
through Bhavnagar, thanks to VITCOS Transportation Pvt Ltd, a
city bus service provider in Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation.
"We have ordered two new doubledecker buses and hope to run them on
the city roads from December end," said Haresh Dodiya,
VITCOS chairman. At present, the firm runs city bus services in
Gandhinagar, Anand,Baroda and Bhavnagar.
Dodiya says the idea behind introducing double-decker buses in a
comparatively small city is to do something innovative about public
transport. "On the one hand, we will be able to transport more people
in a single trip and on the other, people will get a new choice in the city
bus services," said Dodiya, who hails from Bhavnagar. "It will help us
reduce pollution as well."
"We conducted a random survey on double-decker buses and commuters'
response was overwhelming," he said. The two double-decker buses will
run from Gangajaliya Talav to Bharatnagar and from Gangajaliya Talav
to Kaliyabid area route; they are the busiest stretches in the city. VITCOS
officials said that the buses will cost Rs 35 lakh each and will have a seating
capacity of 70.
