Public transport can be divided in two major categories:
- City – Bus Services
- Railways and State Transport Services
The operations of City – Bus Services are generally handle by the Municipal Corporation or Palikas. The operations of Railways and State Transport Services are either directly handled by the Government or the State Transport Corporation.

Why City–Bus?
- City bus is the most cost effective mode of transport.
- City bus occupy least space on the roads when the number of road users is taken into account. One bus easily carries 70 persons on an average unlike two wheelers and four wheelers. This helps reducing traffic congestion and increases road safety and road life.
- City bus saves the most precious fuel and thereby saves the most valuable foreign exchange. Use of more number of two wheelers and four wheelers on the road means more consumption of fuel. Using city bus more for travel means saving fuel and foreign exchange
- City bus reduces air pollution, as they are less in number compared to the number of two wheelers and four wheelers. Using CITYBUS more for travel means reducing air pollution considerably.
